In this fairytale place along the “Via Francigena”, in the region of Parma, curious travelers are welcoming by the B&B Ca’ del Grano, albergo diffuso (literally, spread out hotel) born from dreams, passion and deep love for the territory of Pontremoli Family.
Out of the ordinary people, the Pontremoli, driven by the goal of making the streets of Bardi shine again, embarked on a particular adventure that led them, after a long renovation and reconstruction of the structures surrounding the red jasper on which the Castle rises, to bring back to life something unique that was about to be lost.
This charming B&B that blends with the historic village offers tourist the opportunity to live an incomparable experience, within a place full of history and culture, in the frame of unspoiled nature. Each room, care in all details, with four-poster beds and walls with exposed stones, gives the suggestive sensation of being within the walls of the castle; the view on the Fortress and crowded houses of Bardi complete the scene making the stay to Ca’ del Grano a fairytale moment. In the main room, close to all the accommodations, a rich breakfast is offered every day, prepared with products coming mainly from the territory, a simple and genuine meal, where the aromas and flavours of homemade cakes and desserts stand out, ideal to start better the day and have a fully experience of how wonderful is Bardi, his Castle, the amazing nature that surrounds them and above all, discover what the persons who live in this places have to offer.
A special welcome to the Albergo Diffuso Ca’ del Grano among the Treasures of Italy 2019.
Ca’ del Grano is an Albergo Diffuso located along the ancient village of the town of Bardi, in the province of Parma. The desire to make our valley known, which we call “home”, has led us to undertake this completely new adventure for a family that is slightly out of the ordinary: a mother, a father and five daughters in love with their places. We started with the intent to resurrect what was once the most eventful borough of Bardi and that, with the passage of time, had become practically uninhabited and with houses in ruins.
The heart of Ca’ del Grano, in fact, years ago was the Forno del Paese, called by all citizens “the oven of Furon”. Going even further back with the centuries Ca’ del Grano was the building where the Landi Princes placed the wheat bought by the peasants in the adjacent wheat square. In “Piazza del Grano”, there were all the services (blacksmith, cobbler, tailor, farrier, shops, etc…) and farmers could thus use the money obtained from the sale of grain to buy services and things for the family and then devote themselves to abundant drinking in the numerous Taverns of the Village. The Landi Princes reigned in the Bardi Fortress and essentially guaranteed three things: security, infrastructure and the administration of justice. It was an orderly and sustainable system, which ended with the extinction of the noble family when the last Princess Polissena died.
After much work to restructure and reconstruct the structures surrounding the red jasper on which the castle stands, we came to the realization of what seemed to be an end that went beyond imagination. We brought back to life what was about to be lost, bringing back the architecture of a thousand years ago, of the same age as our fortress. Our goal is to make these roads shine again and live, inviting you to breathe the environment that smells of legend, history and a new future for Bardi. Offering you a stay at the foot of the Castle, you can abandon yourself to the serenity that characterizes this landscape.
